Although it’s a small country, it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Lebanon is a country in Western Asia located on the Mediterranean between Israel, to the south and Syria, to the north. The region was under control of the Ottoman Empire from 1516 to 1918, which collapsed after World War I. The Phoenicians are the creators of the alphabet which is very important in our lives now. The official language spoken there is Arabic and French is also widely spread as a second language because of the control of French over Lebanon for 20 years. Lebanon, finally gained it’s independence from France in 1946. However, Lebanon still never gained it’s peace after that due to the start of a civil war 1958 with two sides fighting each other. The Muslim factions led by Kamal Jumblat and Saeb Salam rose against Lebanese government under the lead of Camille Chamoun, a Maronite ( branch of Catholic Christianity dominant in Lebanon). Soon after the civil war was settled Lebanon got into a destructive war against Israel, which began in 1982 and continued until 2006 with the UN settling it. Lebanon never really had peace for the last couple of years and the conflict is still going on now but this time between the terrorist group, Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, known as ISIS is trying to take over Lebanon as well. Lebanon was never granted the rest that it deserves from political problems.

Places that you should start visiting to explore the Lebanese culture and history

Lebanon is one of the countries with the most beautiful nature where you can see the mountains, beach, sky, and the country itself all at the same time in one scene which is amazing! Lebanon has a beautiful weather which is cool in the summer and colder during winter. Lebanon is full of attractions that represent the Lebanese (Phoenicians) culture and other attractions as well that are known for their beauty. For example, Jeita Grotto which is an underground cave that is naturally carved and contains water in which boats move to take you into a tour inside. It is literally the coolest natural cave I ever saw in my life.

Another attraction that you can go visit is the Byblos Castle which is one of the most ancient buildings. It was built by the Crusaders in the 12th Century and is still there to visit until now standing high on the ground. It is a great place to visit if you are interested in history and ancient buildings. Also the City of Sidon is a wonderful place to go to because this ancient Phoenician city has been of great religious, political and commercial value; it is said to be inhabited since 4000 B.C. It was built by the crusaders in the 16th Century as well.

Do you want to know the Lebanese culture? Then you absolutely need to go to the Byblos Wax Museum which This museum displays wax statues and life scenes from the Phoenician era to the modern times. It displays many of the important figures in Lebanon and there is a guide that tells you who is each person and a brief about what they did which I thought was really interesting.

Lebanon is a really beautiful country and that was a very brief tour of it. Although it is a small country, it is full of wonders and culture. I recommend visiting Lebanon because it is a good place to spend vacation and enjoy every moment of it. I have been to many other places even more relaxing and worth visiting but I chose the places above to demonstrate the Lebanese culture and history rather than attractions to visit. I love Lebanon!
